The Technical Services department plays a crucial role in ensuring the provision and maintenance of essential infrastructure and services, including roads, water, sanitation, electricity, and other public facilities, ultimately impacting the quality of life for residents.
Core responsibilities and functions:
- Infrastructure Development and Maintenance:
- Planning, design, and construction of new infrastructure projects.
- Maintaining existing infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and public buildings.
- Ensuring infrastructure meets quality standards and safety regulations.
- Basic Service Delivery:.
- Providing electricity and street lighting.
- Managing traffic signals and road signs.
- Project Management:
- Managing and implementing infrastructure projects.
- Monitoring project progress and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Community Engagement:
- Consulting with residents on infrastructure needs and priorities.
- Addressing community concerns related to infrastructure and services.
- Strategic Planning:
- Developing long-term infrastructure plans.
- Assessing community needs and developing strategies to address them.
- Other Responsibilities:
- Managing municipal vehicles and equipment.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Providing technical expertise to other municipal departments.
- Roads: Maintaining roads, both surfaced, and gravel.
- Stormwater: Maintaining stormwater drains.
- Electricity: Providing electricity in both urban and per-urban areas and maintaining the electricity infrastructure.
- Streetlights: Installing and maintaining streetlights and high masts lights.
- Traffic Lights: Installing and maintaining traffic lights.
- Social Assets: Designing and constructing social assets like sports facilities, community halls, and access roads.
- Building Maintenance: Maintaining municipal infrastructural assets such as buildings and electrical wiring.
